Fundraising
We are fortunate at Sixpenny Handley First School to have a Friends Association which has been an integral part of the school community for a number of years. In its time we have raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children's education experience and the school's facilities.
The Friends Association is about much more than simply fundraising, it exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.
All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if you only have a small amount of time available. All families are automatically members once your child joins our school.
We also have a number of parents and some staff members who make up the full committee. We meet on a regular basis usually once or twice per term, to plan and discuss fundraising ideas and events. If you are interested in joining the committee please do not hesitate to talk to a member of the Committee or just come along to the next planned meeting.
We have a growing list of volunteers who commit some of their time to helping the committee. Every little helps, so just one hour assisting at an event would be invaluable.
Our funds are raised through events that we run, some of our most popular events include: school discos, film nights, cake sales, sponsored events, Bag2school recycling collections, raffles, tea towel creations etc.
Usually, Mrs Musselwhite will have a 'wish list' of items that the school would like the Friends to consider funding. Funds are spent on the 'extras' that are not provided by the school's budget, thus making our children's learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting. Recent funds raised are contributing to: subsidising trips, resources for themed weeks/days, a new cooker, books for the library, phonics and magazine subscriptions. Recently there was a significant investment in new gazebos following a successful grant application.
